Coffee Break

Posted by richelleirish on June 4, 2009

Now that school is over, this blog is less of my concern. But I am somewhat determined to keep it going. I still love coffee, but I am just on a break.

Coffee Cream Cheese Brownies

Posted by richelleirish on April 24, 2009

From About.com “Coffee and cream cheese give rich flavor to brownies. The recipe uses a boxed brownie mix to save time, but you would never know it from the end result.”

Ingredients:

  • 1 (3 ounces) package cream cheese, softened
  • 2 Tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 4 eggs, divided use
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 Tablespoon flour
  • 2 Tablespoons instant coffee granules
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 (19.8 ounces) box family size brownie mix
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Combine cream cheese and butter; blend thoroughly. Add sugar and blend until light and fluffy. Beat in 1 egg and vanilla, then stir in flour and mix well. Set aside.

In medium bowl, dissolve coffee in water. Add brownie mix, remaining eggs, and vegetable oil; blend well. Pour half the batter into greased 9 x 13-inch baking dish.

Drop cheese mixture by heaping tablespoons over brownie batter. Pour remaining batter over cheese mixture and gently swirl a butter knife through it to create a marbled effect. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes.

Yield: 24 to 36 brownies, depending on cut size

Brownies are my favorite baked goods. The cream cheese sounds like it would be really good, too.

Posted by richelleirish on April 24, 2009

Ingredients:

1 cup strong coffee
40 large marshmallows
2 cups heavy cream
chocolate syrup

Optional:

8 to 10 mint sprigs for garnish                                                                                                          4 tablespoons sliced almonds (preferably toasted)

In a saucepan over medium heat combine coffee and marshmallows whisking until marshmallows melt, cool completely.

Whip the cream to soft peaks, fold into the cooled marshmallow mixture; spoon into custard cups lined with plastic wrap extended over the sides.  Cover and freeze for 2 hours.

When ready to serve invert semifreddo custard cups onto individual plates, remove plastic wrap and garnish with almonds, chocolate syrup, mint sprigs and serve this easy dessert.

Serves 8 to 10

This recipe looks extremly good! I am going to make this as soon as I can.

McDonalds (yes they have coffee too)

Posted by richelleirish on April 24, 2009

McDonalds

1245 Paul Bunyan Dr NW, Bemidji, MN

Yes, I know that McDonalds is hardly a Coffee House, but I thought that the prices might be low and more affordable for college students like myself.

Taste – At McDonalds, I bought a simple Iced Coffee. It wasn’t very good coffee and I didn’t like the fact that it was watered down. Wasn’t strong enough for my taste. After a little research I found out that it gave some people a laxative effect! Here is a Blog http://tlc-smileygirl.blogspot.com/2008/04/mcdonalds-iced-coffee.html that had some comments about it.

Pricing – The cost was very convenient. It was priced like I hoped it would be. A small is $1.29 and large is $1.99

Service – Well besides the typical line at Mickey Dee’s, the service went as usual. The employees were nice and friendly as always.

Appearance – The “restaurant” is always clean, which is something positive. The atmosphere is busy and the sitting is uncomfortable plastic as we all know. The drive through works, though, and it is the best way to avoid Ronald McDonald.

Overall – Ok so I know that I shouldn’t have rated this place from the start, but I did and now I know that unless you want cheap coffee for cheap, don’t go to McDonalds.

Cabin Coffee house and Cafe

Posted by richelleirish on April 24, 2009

Cabin Coffeehouse and Café

214 3rd St., Bemidji, MN

Taste – The Mocha I bought was a latte with Ghirardeli Chocolate topped with whip Cream. It was very good and since I am a fan of Ghirardeli chocolate, it made it even better. 4/5

Pricing – I somehow picked up a coupon over this year for this coffee house so I received a free bagel with a 16 oz. Latte or Mocha. The cost was very low at $3.50 (medium size). The least expensive thing was a plain coffee for $1.40 (small with one refill) and the most expensive was the “Northern Lights” large for $5.00.

Service – The service was good. The café also has delivery which is neat, but there is a $8.00 minimum.

Appearance – I liked this coffee house because it has wireless internet with computers. It had a friendly atmosphere and I like that it has a full menu. I also heard that there is live music occasionally which would be very neat.

Overall – I would go here again because of the coupons and I would probably try delivery.

No website available but menu is available at http://www.bemidjimenus.com/dining/cabin.html
